The 1st “Shenzhen Forum on Ocean Sciences for Young Scholars” held by the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering of SUSTC was successfully finished. This Forum is designed to provide the outstanding young scholars from across the world with a platform for mutual learning and communication and enhance the ability of cross-over study and technical innovation of the Chinese ocean science.
At the opening ceremony of the Forum, Yongshun CHEN, dean of the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering of SUSTC and Chang Jiang Scholar made a speech, who introduced the development situation and planning of SUSTC and its Department of Ocean Science and Engineering and welcomed the excellent young talents to attend the construction of SUSTC. Chuanlun ZHANG, convener of the meeting and professor of the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering also made a welcoming speech, who hoped to create a world-class microorganism oceanography and geomicrobiology platform and hoped that the Shenzhen Forum on Ocean Sciences for Young Scholars held by the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering may be regularly held each year to provide an international exchange platform for the domestic and overseas young scholars, so as to promote development of the Chinese ocean and earth science.
After the opening ceremony, the present young scholars had group photos. The two-day Forum was started formally. 18 young scholars made their statements about marine microorganism and organic geochemistry, who came from University of Georgia, University of Washington, University of Calgary, University of Alabama, University of Hong Kong and Zhejiang University. The group discussion was conducted on the afternoon of the last day to discuss the constructive problems, suggestions and opinions about the research in the future.
